Just a short stroll from the River Walk on St. Mary’s Street, family-owned El Mirador is an oasis among the kitschy tourist restaurants. Diners will happily walk the few blocks to this no-frills Mexican food haven, open since 1967. Soups such as the sopa de lima (tortilla soup) and Cristina’s Black Bean Soup are popular menu items, and multiple seafood choices are available, including lobster and crabmeat tacos and nachos, or tortilla-encrusted red snapper. For non-meat eaters, a modest selection of vegetarian enchiladas is available, filled with equally flavorful items such as garlic potatoes and sautéed onions.
Full bar. Serving breakfast and lunch daily, dinner Mon–Sat.
