Esquire magazine has named chef Michael Mina's self-named spot its 2011 Restaurant of the Year.
From
OpenTable and the restaurant:
"Chef Michael Mina has returned to where it all began! Mina’s eponymous restaurant has reopened at 252 California Street, where he started his career. With a brand new menu and a fresh concept, restaurant Michael Mina provides casual, warm service with the educated flair of the West Coast. The restaurant’s cuisine features Michael Mina’s sensibilities with Japanese ingredients and French influence. The dinner menu is a la carte with the option to have the chef cook for your table. Lunch features an array of seasonal small plates as well as salads, soups and Michael Mina Classics. A chef's table is available during lunch for parties of eight or more."
Full bar. Serving lunch Mon–Fri, dinner nightly.
James Beard Foundation: Outstanding Service award finalist (national), 2012
"Mina has moved away from his tasting-menu focus at the old space, though a five-course tasting menu ($95) is still available. But the new Mina invokes a more traditional, almost old-school format — starting with a caviar sampler (market price), cold shellfish (also market price) and a sampler of hors d’oeuvres ($18/person) like a quail-egg sandwich and bay scallop ceviche."
