If you're afflicted with such a tongue that needs to be torched on a regular basis, Chung King may be your perfect restaurant. This San Gabriel Valley hot spot features Sichuan-style cooking that's not your everyday, bland Chinese takeout. Entrées explode with garlic, vinegar and peppery goodness that will light up your palate and numb the roof of your mouth. The stir-fried chicken with a ludicrous amount of red chilies is a must-try, while other offerings include braised eel, fried Chinese bacon with garlic sprouts and, for the truly adventurous, pig ear.  Cash only. Beer available. Serving lunch and dinner daily.

But once inside, that bowl of fish in fire engine–red sauce, laced with a pleasantly Novocaine-like amount of Sichuan peppercorns and dried red chiles, might ensure that you spend almost as much time here as you do washing your clothes."
