At La Fondue, half the fun of eating out is cooking your own food (in fondue fashion), paradoxically enough. Leisurely and romantic, the restaurant is dim yet festive with deep colors and plenty of sparkle and candlelight. This is serious destination dining: Cooking with fondue pots and tiny tabletop grills can take two hours or more. There’s cheese fondue and exotic meats such as ostrich, alligator, calamari and wild boar, but locals really get excited over the chocolate fondue. Strawberries, bananas, marshmallows and other dessert goodies are available to dip into bittersweet chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate fondues flavored with Grand Marnier, Irish cream, Godiva or amaretto. According to fondue etiquette, if a woman drops a piece of food in the pot she owes her date a kiss. Men shouldn’t get too excited, though — a man who drops food in the pot must buy the next round of drinks.
Reservations suggested. BYOB Mon–Wed. Full bar. Serving dinner nightly.
"Yes, the requisite fondue of Swiss and Emmental cheeses melted with wine and a hint of nutmeg tops the menu, but you can also try the Cajun fondue with cheddar, beer, shrimp and spices, or the blue tomato fondue with its hint of blue cheese and slivers of sun-dried tomatoes."
