Best Spanish, Tapas

The Spanish tapas at Jaleo are so numerous and varied that you'll have to order a dozen plates, so take along a group to try a bit of everything. Then select a smorgasbord of the best tapas in town, made under the guidance of the ingenious James Beard Award-winning chef/restaurateur José Andrés. Mix and match from the year-round tapas and the seasonal offerings. It will be really difficult to tear yourself away from Spanish tuna and potato salad, the bizarre-sounding but delicious date and bacon fritters, or pork in orange sauce. In season, look for the best of the bounty, from pan-fried artichokes with tomato reduction, sautéed soft shell crab, and summer's La Tomatina (a selection of dishes using perfectly ripe tomatoes). (Think watermelon and tomatoes on mint skewers.) Large plates, available during dinner and on weekends, include an array of excellent paellas.

Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Sat–Sun brunch 11:30 am–3 pm.

"Though the menu offers a handful of entrees (available only after 5pm), you really want to consider those tapas — 60 at last count. These include a very simple but not-to-be-missed grilled bread layered with a paste of fresh tomatoes and topped with anchovies, date and bacon fritters, a skewer of grilled chorizo sausage atop garlic mashed potatoes, and gazpacho."
