The 27th Annual Taste of Newport will benefit
Child & Family's Supportive Housing Program for Homeless Mothers and their Children
What is the Taste of Newport?
Child & Family's annual Taste of Newport has become one of the most
successful and best known fundraising events in the State of Rhode
Island. It is one of the finest examples of a community coming together
in support of a social service agency, which in turn support those in
need within Newport County and beyond.
Held annually in November, over 45 of Newport County's best chefs
and caterers join together to showcase their culinary expertise and
share their delicious creations with over 500 guests. The event features
a sit down buffet with appetizers, entrees, desserts and specialty
coffees. The event also includes a silent and live auction as well as a
raffle. Contributions for the auctions and raffle are generously
donated by local and regional businesses and organizations.
How does the Taste of Newport benefit Child & Family, and in turn those in need within Newport County and beyond?
Funds raised from the annual Taste of Newport have provided resources
that allow Child & Family to reach out to members of our community
who would otherwise have gone un-served. These members include teens
struggling with depression, elders who have suddenly lost their
caretakers, families in need of quality child care they can afford,
families who are homeless, and many, many others.
How did the Taste of Newport start?
It has been over 25 years since a small community of volunteers, led by
Newport resident Jeannie Sullivan and Donna Maytum, launched Child &
Family's "Taste of Newport." Since then, the generous chefs and
restaurant owners of Newport and its surrounding communities have turned
out the best spread of culinary delights that can be found anywhere.
