This
year's festival will "tee off" on Wednesday, May 4th, with a new event
for 2011: the South Carolina Strawberry Festival Golf Tournament. Held
at Springfield Golf Club in Fort Mill, this picturesque 18-hole course
will challenge all participants regardless of their golfing ability.
This will be a four-person, captain's choice tournament, with lots of
great prizes. Only a limited number of openings will be available,
so register early to secure your spot! Tournament proceeds will benefit
the Fort Mill Care Center.
On
Thursday, May 5th, history will once again be made at the second annual
South Carolina Strawberry Festival Pageant. Join us from 7:00 pm to
9:00 pm in the Nation Ford High School Auditorium and witness the
crowning of our 2011 South Carolina Strawberry Queens. Last year, over
700 attendees were on hand as Fort Mill's Anna Skidmore (Miss) and Avery
Close (Teen) were selected as the festival's first ever Strawberry
Queens.
On
Friday, May 6th, the festival will move outdoors to Walter Elisha Park
in downtown Fort Mill. Festivities will begin at 6:00 pm and will
feature arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, and activities for the
entire family. If you enjoy live music, you won't want to miss the
Strawberry Jam! This year's line up will feature a variety of bands on
both the Founders Federal Credit Union Stage and the Visit York County
Stage. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an evening full of
fantastic (and free!) entertainment with over 20,000 of your closest friends. Activities will continue all the way until 11:00 pm.
The
fun continues at Walter Elisha Park on Saturday, May 7th, beginning at
11:00 am. Come out and see some of the best local talent compete for
their chance at superstardom during the Texaco Country Showdown,
presented by WRHI and Interstate 107. Visit Piedmont Medical Center's
Healthy Hometown for free health screenings and tips about healthy
living. See if you have what it takes to "Berry the Competition" in our
recipe contest, or test your appetite by trying your luck in one of
our strawberry pie or ice cream eating contests. A variety of family
friendly activities, including kids' rides, pig races,
a petting zoo, and face painting will be available in the Kids Zone,
presented by the Rock Hill Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Arts and crafts
and food vendors will be on hand throughout the day, and the Strawberry
Jam will continue throughout the day and into the night. At 8:45 pm, the
festival go out with a bang as a spectacular fireworks display
presented by Comporium lights up the Fort Mill sky.
You
won't want to miss the 2011 South Carolina Strawberry Festival in Fort
Mill. We hope you can join us for our signature celebration of spring...
and all things strawberry!
