NORTH BETHESDA, MD – Strathmore presents its first culinary and epicurean arts festival, Appetite™ - A Gastronomic Experience, on Friday, August 1 and Saturday, August 2, 2014. Headlining the arts center’s inaugural food festival are Food Network star, author and “Today Show” regular Giada De Laurentiis on Friday, August 1, and “Bizarre Foods” celebrity chef Andrew Zimmern on Saturday, August 2. The festival will be roiling with live music, trending food trucks, demonstrations with local chefs and food purveyors, tempting tastings, a craft beer garden, wine pairings, and more in the Music Center, Mansion and surrounding grounds. In addition to its two headliners, the meat of Appetite is a day-long food festival on Saturday, August 2, with experiences to ignite all the senses. The Mansion at Strathmore features Talk & Taste demonstrations with Chef Todd Gray of Equinox Restaurant, cookbook author Ellen Kassoff, Pinstripes, and former Cooking Light Executive Chef Billy Strynkowski, as well as food purveyors Righteous Cheese, Swing’s Coffee, The Chocolatier’s Palette, and All Things Olive, among others. Foodies can whet their palates with tastes from raw vegan Ape Man Foods, Cooks Corner of Central Farm Markets, MeatCrafters, and Magnet Earth Gourmet, while indulging with sips of specialty liquors and wines from Vino Volo and Republic National. The grill area will have pro tips for preparing meats and fish with complementary tastings from BLT Steak, Ed Hardy of Quench, Chef Todd Gray, and Chef Billy Strynkowski.
The Music Center will host Pairing workshops, with wine, fruit, cheese, beer, charcuterie and other dining dualities from J. Chocolatier, Righteous Cheese, MeatCrafters, and more. Federal Realty will provide a taste of what’s to come at its new Pike & Rose neighborhood, home to Strathmore’s new music venue AMP, with demonstrations from Chef Jeff Mahim of Summerhouse and Santa Monica’s M Street Kitchen, and Robert Weidmaier of Mussel Bar & Grille, as well as the Pike & Rosé lounge. A specialty Beer Garden will host local craft brews, while Scott Drewno of The Source hosts a pig roast.
Specialty food purveyors will line the concert hall lobby for a unique culinary shopping and tasting experience with cooking accessories, sampling specialty liquors and wines, and bites from Whole Foods, Velatis caramels, and Secolari olive oils. In addition, Morton’s The Steakhouse will serve made to order mini steak sandwiches.
Bridging these two spaces will be an abundance of outdoor activities on Strathmore’s campus. The free Food Truck Court features an eclectic mix of mobile munchies from Red Hook Lobster Pound, The Culinary Nomad, Dolci Gelati, Jose Andres’ Pepe, Woodland’s Vegan Bistro, Corned Beef King, and others. Continuous live music will be provided by the 19th Street Band, Chopteeth Afro Funk Big Band, Howling art the Moon featuring Jay Summerour, and Israel-Morris Newgrass.
